Accolate Medication - Uses and Side Effects
Accolate Pronunciation name is zafirlukast. Accolate helps prevent asthma attacks. Zafirlukast helps to reduce asthma symptoms mostly coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, or chest tightness. Zafirlukast is effective in adults and older children. It works only when used on a regular basis to help reduce inflammation and prevent asthma attacks. This medication works by blocking the activity of natural substances (leukotrienes) that may cause or worsen asthma. Zafirlukast should be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. use it at the same times each day. Do not increase or decrease your dose or stop using this medication without consulting your doctor. Continue to take other medications for asthma as directed by your doctor. This medication works over time and is not meant to relieve sudden attacks of asthma.
Zafirlukast is more than 99% bound to plasma proteins, predominantly albumin. The degree of binding was independent of concentration in the clinically relevant range. Accolate most side effects is Headache , nausea and diarrhea. If you notice any of the following highly unlikely but very serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention: persistent nausea, stomach pain, dark urine, fatigue, yellowing eyes or skin. Allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash , itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
How to use
- Accolate should be taken twice every day, whether or not you have had any recent asthma attacks.
- Do not take the medication with food.
- You can continue to take Accolate while using another medication to stop an attack.
- Do not increase or decrease your dose or stop using this medication without consulting your doctor.

Precautions
